The Kingdom Hearts Saga Continues

My wife and I just finished playing Kingdom Hearts 2 and wow. What an experience! The first one was fun, Chains of Memories we only watched the cut scenes because the game play is apparently not great, but the story was interesting. KH2? There's just something about it that makes me feel like this is going to be my next big fandom. I LOVE Sora and Riku together, I LOVE Axel, going into Birth by Sleep I'm gaining a deeper appreciation for Roxas and I'm already thinking of theories as to why Ventus looks like Roxas and just. Aaaaaah!

(If you guys played the whole series, please no spoilers, I'm really enjoying this!)

I've been hesitating between playing Birth By Sleep or watching the cut scenes of 358/2 and after seeing the after credits of KH2, I just HAD to go right away in Birth By Sleep, cause WTF??! Seriously, wtf was that! Anyway, I'm just super excited about it all and it makes me so happy, I love that feeling brewing in my chest, that knowledge that I'm about to be hyperfixated on something real soon, I just need to get through the learning process and the replaying and all! It's going to be SO FUN!

Rogan: When the first Kingdom Hearts came out, I remember people at first kinda being like, "this... seems like a crossover fanfic a teenager would've made on FF.net." But then it became HUGE.

I saw nothing of KH2, I just made my brother super mad because I walked in at him starting, he was talking about how cool Roxas was, and I went, "Huh, Sora-X."

"WHAT?"

"His name's an anagram for Sora X."

And then he got mad and kicked me out so I never got to find out anything about KH2, haha

LOL I realize the name was an anagram from almost the get go too XD I was like. Roxas... Roxas.. Sorax? Sora! I wasn't fond of Roxas from the beginning because after playing so long with Sora what do you mean we're starting the next game with a complete stranger D:<

It's definitely the kind of game that grows on you more than anything XD I also thought it was something more of a weird combo, especially since I'm not fond of early Disney (I don't mind the princesses (though my fave movie is Huntchback of Notre Dame), but I don't like the mouse and company XD), and I'm not well versed in Final Fantasy either. All that combined with the fact I never had any video game console as a child and got a PS3 for myself around the age of 25, I also don't have the nostalgia factor playing in, so I feel I went in having like just the expectation of having a good time in a somewhat campy game and now here I am XD Like, is it the best game I've ever seen? No, but it's so enjoyable and I think it's the "where is this story going?" that makes it so fun really!

Final Fantasy characters are there in the first 2 main games but not in the 3rd one from what I've heard (and I think they are in other side games? I'll have to ask my wife about that XD). Not a spoiler cause he doesn't have anything to do with the game story itself, but Sephiroth is so fucking hard to beat D: He's like 100% optional, which is good because wut? XD If you ever play let me know!

Kingdom Hearts 2 is one of my favorite games of all time (Slowly doing a Critical mode Level 1 playthrough right now actually, it's kicking my ass lmao), and probably my first Kingdom Hearts game? It was either that or the GBA version of Chain of Memories (And I do personally recommend trying out Chain of Memories at some point, I think the card combat is very fun personally, albeit easy to break).

KH is one of those franchises I grew up with so my opinions have turned towards the more critical but I don't think there's a truly bad game of the lot and it's always neat to see someone reacting to the fever dream of the franchise for the first time.

Excited to see what your thoughts on Birth By Sleep is, it introduces the command system which I think is pretty damn fun, similar but uniquely different to the style of KH1 and 2.

Yay! Another fan! omg I've gone through all games so far in easy mode XD I might do normal if/when I play again, but for now my goal is to go through the story lines first without getting frustrated about not being able to move beyond levels because of how much I suck at playing XD I salute your courage! I might try to play Chain of Memories since I know the story more now!

I'll update with Birth By Sleep as soon as I'm done with it!

Hey you ain't gotta justify anything to me. I'm a fan of a challenging game but I ain't toxic about it. I am 100% willing to change the difficulty if a fun challenge becomes purely frustrating and I do not judge others for doing the same. Though yeah Critical Mode Level 1 is TOUGH, pretty much everything will kill you in two hits, I've played the game a few times but I've had to learn a lot about the deeper systems at play. KH2 is the only game of the franchise I'd do this for though, I don't know the other games nearly well enough to handle all that lol.

Looking forward to the reactions to Birth By Sleep, it's a prequel so you get to see some fun appearances.

oof good luck! considering KH2's beginner mode is much harder than KH1, I can only imagine how hard critical is!
