Thoughts of no particular consequence

My wife and I are now playing Kingdom Hearts 2 (we're doing a bit of a marathon whenever time allows), and since this is my first time ever playing this series, here are some of my thoughts:

1 - I absolutely ship Leon and Aerith. They just make sense together. I love them.
2 - Sora is such a cute character! I like him better in KH2 than in KH1 though, I like his sass XD
3 - I like the KH specific story part than the Disney story parts. Both are fun to play, but I have much more fun discovering a new part of the story rather than bits of story I'm already familiar with.

I started the process of actually writing the vampire novel and it's *painful*. I'm so rusty when it comes to writing! It feels like I've never written anything at all, so right now, I'm writing in more of a movie script way, with very basic descriptions and a focus on dialogues (and even for those I'm rusty AF). Most of my problem comes from how difficult it is to visualize what I'm trying to depict since I still have so much research to do about France's nobility system before the French Revolution and all. Basically, this is just me wanting to write something else than just world building and I think I'm putting the cart before the horses here. I might actually take care of my writing itch through fanfics for the time being, because that world building is so, so important to do before I can finally write something that will make sense to me.

I also am probably going to change my female main character's name. The current name I have for her is Louise Gabrielle, but I've been toying around with Gisele and Genevieve as well. G seems like a constant at the very least.

As for fanfics, I've been in a big OC mood lately. I've always loved writing OCs in fanfics, but early on I discovered that people don't like them much because they might be too Mary Sue/self-inserts, but honestly, I just love creating characters and putting them in familiar worlds, it's a great way to explore character creation and writing techniques in general. Also, I'm 35, I don't have time anymore for feeling any shame about what I enjoy creating (easier said than done honestly, but it all starts with words of affirmation). I am cringe but I am free!

I've gotten gel pens this week! I've been interested in trying them because I write mostly by hand and my fountain and ballpoint pens have cramped my hand muscle a lot. So far, gel pens have been kind of a life saver for that. I'm currently testing out Pilot G-2 (I wanna know exactly how long it lasts for me) and Pentel Energel (because pretty colours, I got the lesbian colours pack XD) and so far, I like the Pentel better because it doesn't smudge at all! I can make a blob and a microsecond later try to spread it with my hand and nothing. The Pilot G-2 is only really safe after a full line of writing. Also, not gonna lie but those colourful Pentel are just making me really happy! And they're more affordable than fountain pen ink (I've gotten into fountain pens a few years ago, and what I've considered mainly for ecological reasons ended up being a bit of a consumption thing with pretty inks I ended up rarely using and beautiful fountain pens that I gave away to friends instead. The fountain pens I kept were actually on the cheaper side (Platinum) and I've kept just three different pretty inks that I use exclusively for letter writing with a dip pen. That and just a permanent black that I use mostly for inking drawings... Now that I think about it, I kinda wanna write a post about fountain pens in general XD But like, make it anti-consumption rather than "here's a list of the best of the best out there, spend your money!". I might just do that XD).

With the situation concerning French nobility before the French Revolution, I am tempted to go, "You should watch 'The Rose Of Versailles'!!", because even though Oscar and André never existed, a lot of the people in the series did, and it helped me better understand how everything came to be back then. I also remember I heard somewhere (Vague, I know.) that Louis XIV actually wanted the square in front of Versailles to have really loose cobble stones (?), because with the shoes back then, everybody would stumble and he would feel like the whole world was bowing down to him. Not sure whether this is true, but it would fit his attitude (Sun King and all that)...

I am so happy to have you on my FL now. I am sorry I am just getting around to commenting now. (BTW, I do have an introduction post linked in my memories on DW, the last one was written a few days ago actually...) I never got to play Kingdom Hearts, but I do think there also was a manga linked to that that I once got a recommendation for if I am not entirely mistaken. Hm. I also must admit, the phrase "I am cringe but I am free" made me smirk. :D It is true, though (Not that you are cringe, I mean... But rather that at some point, it shouldn't matter anymore, because you are free to enjoy what you do enjoy :)!!)!

Are you left-handed by the way? Just curious, because I know from my left-handed friends that they sometimes struggle with writing when their hands touch the already written stuff all the time and the ink ends up being distributed over the page, unfortunately... I actually also like gel pens. I would love to write with fountain pens again (Last time was in school; ergo: It has been a while...), but I know I would get annoyed changing the ink cartridges (SP?) all the time.

I've heard a lot about the Rose of Versailles but I've never watched/read it! I'm def going to take a look at it now! Thanks for the rec! I also don't know if it's true about Louis XIV but you know, I wouldn't necessarily be surprised XD

Don't be sorry about taking time to reply, I don't expect anyone to reply within the day or even the week!

I'm not left-handed! But I do care about ink not smudging, especially since I've known some fountain pen inks that take so long to dry I can't turn the page if I'm done writing two, so I'm careful about any inks that smudge in general. I never wrote with fountain pens at school, we only ever used pencils until high school, and even then most people would still just use mechanical pencils rather than pens. I think I only started using pens at school once at uni.

Pens! I have been writing with a fine point purple Pentel RSVP pen since I was in high school and I'm planning to never stop actually. I love how they feel to hold, I love the purple ink they use and they're just always exactly what I want my writing to look like. I buy them by the box so there's always some somewhere in my house. I'll cry if Pentel ever decides to get rid of them.

Also - VAMPIRE NOVEL! I'm excited to hear more about this. I too have one of those that I started last year based on a really wild though process I had about vampirism and then it kind of stalled out. I'm hoping I can get back to it this year some time. But also I'm just having so much time in fanfic world right now... so it might be awhile.

I used to like the RSVP pens, they lasted forever in my memory XD I should try one again just to see if I still enjoy it or if gel pens have truly taken over for me (although considering the range of colours, I think gel pens will win this one XD).

Writing fanfics is just so fun honestly, it feels really nice to just write without having to think about world building and all, I'm definitely struggling with that XD Whenever you feel like writing your vampire story I'd love to hear about it!

Rogan: hungryghosts are into fountain pens, I know, though I don’t know that they post much about them here. I myself am looking into refillable brush pens for work stuff, but the cost really makes me nervous if I can’t try them out first!

I would highly recommend going with waterbrushes to start with, or Amazon also has a few options that are pretty cheap as well if you want to see if you like it or not to begin with! No need to go high end for it at all (another thing you can do is take an empty alcohol marker barrel and use it with ink instead, I think Copic has those empty ones). (Also thanks for the user rec, I follow them now!)

Tbh, I think it's an excellent idea to start a draft like that! It sort of sounds like you're doing something like a zero draft. I think that's what I'll need to do to start writing, too. Also, I totally understand the importance of world building, but I also don't think it'll necessarily hurt to start off with an extremely rough draft, even if it's only five pages or so. I think one of the reasons why I'm paralysed is because I've spent such a long time on world-building/character-building that it now feels difficult to translate that into a definitive plot (aside from the major beats).

But at the end of the day, you have to do what works for you! If that means writing fanfics with OCs, then that's what it means. Totally agreed about not letting shame stop you! Heck, I'd support it even if you wrote a Mary-Sue intentionally to be completely self-indulgent xP

Thank you for your support XD who knows, maybe it's going to happen XD

And yes, Draft zero is something I like to call whatever first draft I'm working on regardless, kinda takes the pressure off my shoulders that a "first draft" would (even though first draft is supposed to be pressure-free to begin with, the unfortunate result of having read too many advice blogs about first drafts).

I totally get how you feel about struggling to put words onto what you've already built, especially since at times, characters take a life of their own and decide that whatever you thought about them isn't how they want to act anymore.
